this has to do with being human beings. everyone has their prejudices. we are taught them and they are not easy to unlearn. we are habitual. we have a lot of bad habits. we teach our children to protect our hearts. our hearts don’t need protecting. our hearts need to lead the way. demonstrating love is what we should do as human beings. we can only start with ourselves. if we just do what we can…you…me…and spread as much love as we can. it’s the best we can do. love is the only truth there is and it’s the only way to heal anything. love now. tell as many people as you can that you love them. hug everyone you love and everyone you meet. it heals people. don’t be afraid. nothing to fear but fear itself. don’t speak your fears out loud. we are all going to die. so, live unafraid. no one can hurt you. you have love on your side. spread around the good stuff. live what you believe. i do my best to live what i believe and show as much love as i can. it’s hard! but i can’t complain about a thing if i’m going to contribute to all the crap and complaining doesn’t do anything but cause a little karma. it’s not about revenge, new laws, getting tough on crime, or what anyone else does. it’s about the face looking back in the mirror. hatred is a poison and it kills everyone it touches. hatred and anger is a poison one swallows while waiting for everyone else to die. hugging someone who is angry is sometimes all it takes. angry people are hurting. there is so much pain in this world and we spread it around with our attitudes. angela said it best when she said hate is a burden…we all have it and we all have to look in the mirror and start with our own bad habits and burdens. turn burdens into blessings and send someone love.

michael…very well written. you are very right and it’s love we should all be demonstrating. God is love. we are made in his image. we are to think on those things that are pure and of God. if it isn’t of God or love than what is it? it’s indifference and lacking all empathy. the definition of a sociopath and where our society is headed. read the The Apocrypha if you haven’t already. it completes the Canon. man has tried to dismantle Gods word but it still exists. there is only one complete scroll containing every book of the old and new testament and it’s in a church in Ethiopia. i’ve read much of it and you’ll see why the catholic church decided to leave those books out. the book of jubilee is a perfect example of what you referred to.

The more I read about the violence against Gay people or anybody who is not a fascist, the more I see the same patterns and similarities as in the 1930s in Germany. We all know what happened then. USA country of the free????? Forget it. The problem with fascism is that society does not recognise it in their own back yard. I live in New Zealand where Gays are free people and where any discrimination against homosexuals is highly illegal and unheard of. How come that your christian communities have so much hate? Or is it that the sexual repression of the christian churches is coming home to roost?

Get your facts straight. Seth Winder and Richard Hernandez were involved in a sexual relationship. Part of the evidence in this case are home movies filmed by Richard Hernandez of him performing sex acts with Seth Winder. Seth Winder was a young hiv positive homeless man with paranoid schizophrenia that became close friends with Richard Hernandez and they also shared an open sexual relationship. This was not a hate crime but the result of Seth Winder not having the right psychiatric treatment and medication.

I realize now that this is an umbrella term but I think it is not right. But that is just my opinion. I still think of it in the terms from a dictionary. I haven’t seen my son in a few days but when he comes over today I am going to ask him his feelings on the word & if he does use it in the umbrella sense.

The use of the word “queer’ is an empowerment issue. It is also geographical in usage. One of the more popular usages is the term ‘queer gender’ in defining sexual orientation. However, not all gay people embrace the term ‘queer’. With people who have been forced to live with homophobia their whole lives, it should remain a choice issue on whether or not we embrace the term. I use it often to express points, usually around heteros, but not exclusively. However I usually define myself as ‘gay’ rather than ‘queer’.
